SUPPORT TOOLS
One Step at a Time
Whether you're recently diagnosed or in need of continuing support, you'll need tools to help you cope with your new normal. Check out the resources below for help dealing with your herpes diagnosis.
HANDS: HERPES ACTIVISTS NETWORKING TO DISMANTLE STIGMA
Badass Stigma Warriors
Established in October 2018, this group features 15+ activists from around the world (H/Hub included!) working to squash the stigma associated with a herpes diagnosis. "HANDS envisions a world where people feel comfortable talking about herpes and have access to the information and services needed to support healthy and respectful choices, without facing stigma or discrimination." Every topic and perspective surrounding herpes is covered by this diverse group. Your one-stop shop for all things herpes.
DISCLOSING ANONYMOUSLY
STDCheck.com
At STDCheck.com, you can send an anonymous, standardized text message to anyone in the U.S. for free. The text will read: "A sexual partner recently tested positive for an STD & is notifying you via our Anonymous Notification Tool to recommend you also get tested. Testing is the only way to be sure of your STD status." If you've had sex with someone you aren't comfortable speaking directly to, this tool circumvents the awkward conversation while still responsibly disclosing. Click "Disclose Now" to send a text to a partner.
EDUCATING YOURSELF & YOUR PARTNERS
Knowledge is Sexy
I have gathered some of what I think are the most important facts about herpes on my Get the Facts page. You can also check out the CDC for a comprehensive explanation of what herpes means for your life. Click "Get the Facts" to educate yourself.
SUPPORT GROUPS
Surround Yourself with Positive Vibes
One of the best things I did was join SupportGroups.com to speak with others living with herpes. You can get feedback, encourage others, or just read through the comments. It's such a relief to know so many others are dealing with the same issues. Click "Support Groups" below to get started.
JOURNALING
Capture Your Thoughts So You Can Conquer Them
The worry, the doubt, the uncertainty about your future... so much is running through your mind right now. Write it down. Get it all out of your head and onto paper. This will reduce anxiety and give you some relief. Over time, revisit your old thoughts to see how you've grown and come to cope with your herpes diagnosis. Click "H/Hub Blog" to read some of my thoughts and my evolution from panic to peace.
